Troy Samuela

Troy Samuela (formerly known as Samuel Truth) from Auckland, New Zealand has grown into becoming a household name on Darker Than Wax. Though a relatively recent addition, the whopping appreciation from listeners and selectors reassures us that this is a choice keeper.

With Caspian being the instrumental point, nine months ahead and his allegiance is still going strong - from his repertoire of free download tracks to EPs, the most recent one being After Ours EP (DTW 25) released on January 2014.

With a sturdy history in rock and metal bands in his fundamental years, the energy and diversity in his musicianship makes him one of the most kinetic artists of his generation. It was only while attending college at Music and Audio Institute of New Zealand (MAINZ), where he studied Audio Engineering and Music Production, that he unearthed his love for hiphop and beats – through the help and recommendation of his friends.

After graduation from MAINZ, his fascination with hip-hop progressed and equipped with production skills, he has since been relentlessly utilising his midi keyboard, and steadily pursuing his sound, one which has been growing fondly on those in the know.

Troy Samuela has stated Hudson Mohawke, Tnght, George Benson, Steve Vai, and Black Hippy as his influences – it is clear from his unique competence that he is on his way of the path of his great idols. His most recent EP on the Darker Than Wax imprint, ‘After Ours’ has received tremendous praise and plays on various platforms such as Plastician’s radio show on Rinse FM. Most recently, in June 2014, Troy has performed at the prestigious Low End Theory night in Los Angeles, California. Continuing his rapid climb in 2015, he has clocked in an official remix for Odezsa's 'All We Need', and debuting on the former's new label Foreign Family Collective.

The future is bright for this young one.
