Closing out March at #boxoutwednesdays, we have the return of Malaysian jungle dwelling producer and DJ CEE alongside eclectic New York-based selector Marco Weibel and Berlin-based Opium Hum.
Marco Weibel was raised on a diet of soul, early Chicago/Detroit house, jazz and rare grooves. Originally from Singapore, his move to New York has only widened his musical reach. His sets take in beats, dancefloor jazz, boogie, Afro-Brazilian sounds, hip-hop, house/techno, footwork, dub and soundsystem culture.
He is a core member of music collective Darker Than Wax which has garnered support from the likes of Gilles Peterson and Bradley Zero. He has shared the stage alongside acts such as Francois K, Yaeji and Byron The Aquarius, amongst others. We're stoked to welcome him for his #boxoutwednesdays debut.
Opium Hum aka Michail Stangl is one of the key players in the global electronic music underground. Born in Moscow and active in the Berlin scene since 2005, he has built an impressive career both as a DJ and as a facilitator of underground culture. His DJ sets cycle through the vast scope genres and tempos he encounters on his world-wide trips, taking his audience from psychedelic acid taken from the depths of Berghain to the uptempo regions of footwork, with unexpected and surprising excursions to cutting edge dance floor sounds in-between. We look forward to welcoming him to the control tower at #boxoutwednesdays.
CEE has been in the game for over two decades, helping to shape global eclectic bass music until he moved from Vienna to Kuala Lumpur, setting up a studio in the heart of the jungle right outside the Berembun rainforest of Malaysia. With multiple solo albums and EPs under his belt, CEE is currently one half of Bass Sekolah. Along with multi-instrumentalist Darren Ashley, he is on a mission to make honest, soulful, forward-thinking electronic music. They have brought their sensual, sultry sound to festivals and club nights all over Asia.
