Potatohead People's Nick Wisdom (Vancouver) and Aaron DRM from famed New York record label, Bastard Jazz, will be kicking off their Japan 2019 tour in Tokyo in collaboration with Darker Than Wax. Vibes will be on high, with a blend of Hip Hop, Soul, Boogie, Modern Funk, House, Latin, Brazilian, Afrobeat and more.
To get the things started, Tokyo-based Funk technician, Foniks (Darker Than Wax), and party-rocking turntablist DNZ (The Breakdown Shibuya / San Francisco Bay Area) will be gassin' you up before the main acts crank up the heat. And, for all the record heads, Bastard Jazz has pressed an exclusive, Japan-only white label 7" just for this tour, including one unreleased track from Potatohead People and another from Foniks.

Nick Wisdom (Potatohead People, Canada)
Nick Wisdom is a Canadian Record Producer/DJ. Operating as both a solo artist & ½ of producer-duo Potatohead People, he has been releasing music since 2011. Since then, Wisdom has worked with many artists such as Illa J, Reva Devito, Phife Dawg, Kaytranada, Beatchild, T3, Moka Only, Amalia, A l l i e, K-Maxx, Trailer Limon and Ivan Ave. He is a RedBull Music Academy Bass Camp and Playlist Retreat alumni. Nick's productions have landed placements with Netflix, Mercedes-Benz, Powerade & EA’s NBA LIVE 2K16 and have been championed early by the likes of Soulection, Okayplayer, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Big Boi, Questlove and more. As a DJ & avid record collector, Nick’s selections float between Hip-Hop, R&B, 80’s Boogie, Modern Funk & House music. Bouncing back and forth between Vancouver & Montreal his sound has found its way to dance floors from Shambhala, Basscoast & New Forms to Igloofest, Piknic Electronik & Voyage Funktastique. Aaron DRM (Bastard Jazz & Wonder Wheel Recordings)
AARON DRM / DJ DRMAs co-founder and label manager of both Brooklyn’s Bastard Jazz Recordings and Wonderwheel Recordings, alongside partner-in-crime Nickodemus -Aaron DRM has been fortunate enough to travel the world playing records and representing two of NYC’s longest running and most respected boutique record labels. As a globally respected tastemaker and A&R, Aaron is responsible for the discovery and signing of such acts as Captain Planet, Alsarah & The Nubatones, Lord Echo, Potatohead People, Manatee Commune and many more. A skilled DJ first and foremost for over 20 years, his sets are wildly eclectic, bringing in sounds from the tidepools of House Music & deeper electronic soundsfrom around the Globe, Dub & Reggae, Hip-hop, B-Boy Breaks, Latin, Brazilian, Disco, Afrobeat and much more -always aimed straight for the dancefloor.Aaron has toured extensively across the capital cities of Asia, Europe and South America, playing alongside the likes of Q-Tip, Cut Chemist, Afrika Bambaata, Peanut Butter Wolf, Quantic, ?uestlove, and many more. He maintains DJ residencies at the exclusive Boom Boom Room atop NYC's Standard Hotel, and at Thievery Corporation's Washington DC institution The 18th St Lounge.
Foniks (Darker Than Wax)
Originally from California, Foniks is currently based in Tokyo. Ever since cutting his teeth on college radio, he has been digging, DJing, and slapping pads on the MPC alongside respected DJs & international artists from the Bay to LA, NY, Vietnam and currently Japan. He runs a various events in the Shibuya area as a member of the Singapore based collective Darker Than Wax. His DJ sets are a special blend of flavors to satisfy the soul and move your hips, all united through a universal love for the Funk. You can find him at select events flexing engaging live MPC+Microkorg sets where he takes you on a journey through Funk/R&B-infused vibes, House inflected grooves, as well as improvised Footwork & Juke tracks which maintain a rawness that's unique in today’s ‘live’ electronic music scene.
DNZ (The Amazing Zoo Crew, The Breakdown Shibuya)
DnZ is, amongst many things, a DJ, producer, journalist, publicist, promoter, graffiti artist, lover of all fine women and the "World’s Tallest DJ" at 6'7". A San Francisco Bay Area native, currently residing in Tokyo, is now reaching even farther depths of the music world with his own style of music and DJing by playing his beats out live, remixing on the fly with sampling while rocking the crowd as a turntablist in the undergrounds of Japan, Asia and the States.
Battling from 2002-2007 in the local as well as the DMC and ITF battle scenes as well as DJing on-air both internationally and nationally on KALX, KPFA, KSFS, KZSU, NY/NJ Radio Station WFMU, UK's BBC1, Pirate Radio, Internet Radio Shows as well as producing/hosting/DJing for one of his crews own internet show Amazing Zoo Crew Radio on AllDayPlay.fm, he has produced many tracks with notable artists and
hosted many events in conjunction with major labels and brands. He currently is one of the organizers and resident DJ’s at Tokyo’s longest running hip-hop event in Shibuya called The Break Down.
With an early start in his career, at age 13, he had his beginnings in Hip Hop with graffiti and b-boying. But it was not until after listening to a tape by Invisibl Skratch Piklz and Beat Junkies, which he said “listening to them sucked me into the whole scratch world.” Since then, being able to reproduce his beats live and keeping true to
his turntablist roots by flipping doubles, juggling and adding scratches. DnZ has been making noise in the beat scene as not only a producer, but as a performer as well.
