Tenei Kesha, better known as 10A is a musician based out of Christchurch, New Zealand. being highly revered in the scene, 10A is best known for his oNESHOt album, as well as producing 5 album singles for NZ hip-hop artist Scribe’s album ‘Rhyme book’. He was also the one responsible for King Kapisi’s album ‘Dominant species’ in 2005, and his single ‘Raise up’ was even featured in movies Number 2 and The Tattooist.
Music has always been in his DNS since he was born, as his entire family was highly creative and immersed in music. He was just 7 years old when he was given his first drum machine, and 16 years old when he purchased his first 2 music programming sequencers with the support of his mother and uncle. Tenei started programming his mum’s band ‘Jazzies Groove’ and many high school bands and dance groups across New Zealand. Eventually, fate would have him cross paths with M-Phazes in Melbourne (producer for Eminem, David Banner, Kylie, Pharoe Monch and Talib Kweli), and the both started collaborating together. In 2013, his debut album oNESHOt was released on Bandcamp, and received worldwide recognition and admiration from the music community. It was also at at this juncture that Red Bull invited him to participate in NZ’s first producer beat battle in Wellington, which he won with very little surprise. 10A went on to take 1st place in another 3 more such battles, and have never looked back since. He has currently signed to Darker Than Wax, and our paths together certainly look bright.
